Third-Party Apps to be Automatically Updated on Windows Office Computers
If you use a Temple-owned Windows computer, please be aware that starting this month, Information Technology Services (ITS) will begin regularly installing updates to your third-party applications. The updates will be automatically pushed out to your computer to ensure that your applications remain at their latest release levels.
Note that these updates will be in addition to our existing automated update process for Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365.
Which third-party apps will be updated?
Examples of these apps include Chrome, Firefox, Zoom and Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Why is Temple doing this?
We are implementing this initiative to help safeguard Temple computers from security vulnerabilities that can pose a risk to your data as well as to other university systems.
Is there anything I will need to do?
In most cases, no action will be required. A small number of applications, however, may require you to restart your computer after being updated. In this event, a Microsoft Intune software distribution pop-up window will appear, prompting you to Restart now, Pick a Time or Snooze:
We recommend that you pick a convenient time to minimize disruption to your workday or select Restart now, rather than deferring the updates. Also make sure to save your work before restarting to prevent any loss of data.
